About Menomonie

Menomonie is the home of the University of Wisconsin–Stout, a four-year university with an enrollment of more than 10,000 students. The city has been named one of "100 Best Community for Young People" by America's Promise Alliance and one of "100 Best Communities for Music Education in America" by NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants). Menomonie was also rated as one of the top five places to live in Wisconsin. The first human settlement at Menomonie occurred some 10,000 years ago during the Paleo-Indian period. These people are believed to have migrated into this area from southern Canada and were hunter gatherers who used flintknapping techniques to make tools such as arrowheads out stone from local quarries found near Lake Menomin.
