Liberty Lake's elevation varies from above sea level in some parts along its eastern shoreline to over on its western side where it abuts Spokane County's Little Rocky Prairie Park Reserve and then drops down into a valley that leads up to Coeur d'Alene Ridge State Park near Hayden Lake in Idaho just north of I-90/US-95 junction with US-2/US-395 at Post Falls ID just south west across the state line from Liberty Lake WA . The lake itself lies within an ancient channel carved by glacial runoff during previous ice ages when this region was covered by glaciers or perhaps even an inland sea as recently as 20–15 thousand years ago during what geologists call "the last glacial maximum".
