About Virginia Beach

It is also the home of the historic First Landing State Park, near Cape Henry; Fort Story, a military base and beach; Nauticus, The National Maritime Center and Sea Life Aquarium; Ocean Breeze Waterpark (formerly Adventure Island); Pleasure House Point Marina Resort & Spa (home port for several local yacht clubs); Virginia Beach Fishing Center & Museum at Pungo Creek Park on Pungo Lake in nearby Chesapeake. The city is listed in the Book of Lists as having one of "America's 100 Best Beaches". It is served by three airports: Norfolk International Airport, Naval Station Norfolk (which provides air service to destinations throughout North America), and Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The Hampton Roads area has long been inhabited by indigenous peoples. Native Americans were known to inhabit present-day Virginia Beach as early as 8500 BC.
