The city of Winchester, Virginia has a total area of 24.3 square miles (62 km2), all land. The natural topography is mostly rolling hills and valleys with the highest elevation at 3100 feet (945 m) above sea level at Mount Pleasant in the northwest part of town. There are two major running trails: Valley View Trail and Skyline Drive Trail, both created from abandoned rail beds that traverse through the city's parks system; they connect to other regional trails such as the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park trail which runs along Interstate 66 outside Winchester's western border with neighboring Frederick County, Maryland.
