The San Antonio River Walk is a system of paved, tree-shaded walking and biking paths that meander through downtown San Antonio, Texas. The river walk stretches from the historic center of town along the south bank of the San Antonio River to Loop 410 on its north side. It is lined with numerous shops, restaurants (including several themed after various ethnic cuisines), street performers, and attractions such as museums and fountains. The complex includes three hotels: Marriott Plaza Hotel (formerly known as Hemisfair Park Inn), La Villita Historic Arts Village & Museum which houses a collection of Mexican folk art in an 18th-century building originally constructed for commercial purposes by Canary Islanders who settled in what was then one part of their Spanish colonial province called New Spain; it also has two theaters: Lila Cockrell Theatre located at 300 East Market Street which opened in 1968; Arneson River Theater located at 849 E Commerce St., near El Mercado/Market Square opened May 26th 1984 .
