Round Rock and Williamson County have been the site of human habitation since at least 9,200 BC. The area's earliest known inhabitants lived during the late Pleistocene (Ice Age), and are linked to the Clovis culture around 9,200 BC (11,200 years ago). One of the most important discoveries in recent times is that of a Clovis burial site found in 2008 southwest of Round Rock. The remains of seven individuals dating back to 12,000 years were found; six near Brushy Creek and one near the Colorado River. This discovery is significant because it provides physical evidence linking indigenous peoples with present-day Native Americans.
