The name is derived from "plata" (Spanish for "silver") and "planos" (meaning level plains), which the Spanish gave to a creek where they found silver in 1841. Plano was founded as the site of a railroad junction, and developed rapidly as Dallas's northern suburbs. It has several corporate headquarters: Frito-Lay North America, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, JCPenney, Kroger and Whole Foods Market are all headquartered there; Addison Airport is located within city limits; Toyota Motor Sales USA moved its headquarters to Plano in 2013. The city hosts many local events including the Plano Balloon Festival, Blues on Main Street, Downtown Dazzle, Taste of Collin County, Dragon Boat Festival, Great Texas Mosquito Festival, International Festivals & Events Association Conference & Marketplace . In October 2006 CNN/Money magazine listed Plano as one of the top 100 places to live in America.
