About Killeen

Killeen is located in central Bell County, with the city limits extending into Coryell County. The center of Killeen is north of Belton and south of Temple. Interstate 35 runs along the eastern edge of the city, leading north to Waco and south to Austin. Texas State Highway 16 runs through downtown Killeen, leading east to Gatesville and west 22 miles (35 km) northwest via Hamilton Field Road (partially concurrent with US 190) to Fort Hood's main gate on George West Highway; it then continues another 10 miles (16 km), passing by Central Texas Regional Airport before terminating at an intersection with Farm-to-Market Road 734 near Elmsworth Lake on Fort Hood's western boundary line.
