About Kerrville

Kerrville is also home to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Kerrville was founded in 1853 as a community center for German immigrants who were settling in the area. The town's name honors James Kerr, a major during the Texas Revolution and friend of settler-founder Joshua Brown, who settled here to start a shingle-making camp on Cypress Creek (now known as Guadalupe River). In 1854, John Peter Smith laid out his first townsite survey between San Antonio and Austin along what is now Main Street; it became known as "Smith's Addition." By 1860 there were approximately 100 residents living within this new addition.
