Georgetown has been the site of human habitation since at least 9,000 BC. The earliest known inhabitants of the county, during the late Pleistocene (Ice Age), can be linked to Clovis culture and era; they are considered to be paleo-indians. After this came an abundance of Archaic period hunter-gatherers, who are also linked to both early Paleoindian cultures as well as tool making techniques dating from as much as 10–15 thousand years ago.
