Carrollton is the site of corporate headquarters for restaurant chains Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Wingstop. The city was founded in 1848 by John Neely Bryan near a trading post along the Trinity River. In 1853, he sold half of the tract to James Smith who became mayor of Dallas ten years later; Carrollton was named after Mary Ann Carroll Smith (née Bryan), wife to James and sister-in-law to John Neely Bryan's wife Sarah Horton Bryan.
