The Heritage has been played since 1983, and in 2007 had the largest purse of any tournament on the PGA Tour. The event moved to TPC at Sea Island in 2012. The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort metropolitan area (officially known as "Beaufort/Hilton Head Metropolitan Statistical Area") is a U.S. Census Bureau defined metropolitan statistical area consisting of two counties: Beaufort County, South Carolina and Jasper County, Georgia; it includes all of Beaufort County except for Port Royal and excludes Jasper county's unincorporated areas outside its municipal boundaries (Brunswick). As of the 2010 census, this MSA had a population of 207,413 according to the United States Census Bureau making it one among only three MSAs in South Carolina with over 200 thousand residents along with Charleston–North Charleston–Summerville MSA which has an estimated population over 730 thousand people as well as Columbia which also has an estimated population over 690 thousand people .
