About Greenville

Greenville is located approximately halfway between Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina along Interstate 85. The center of the city lies just north of the South Carolina border with Greenville County being part of the Piedmont region. Downtown Greenville is nestled among a series of hills which overlook both downtown and a valley to its south. The area was originally named "Talladega" by European settlers in reference to an Indian village they destroyed on their way out west (the name means "town built on a hill"). Today it is known as Old Towne or simply 'The Village'. It has been home for many generations to one-third or more of Greenvillians now living in town; some families have lived there for over 300 years.
