About York
The city is home to four national historic districts: the York Historic District, which includes part or all of 17 separate blocks in the center of town; East York Historic District; West York Historic District and North York Borough. The former three are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Part of historic Gettysburg Battlefield is located in the south-central part of town, where most notably a portion known as Big Round Top is preserved as open space parkland. York was founded by George Steptoe Washington (grandnephew to George Washington) and his brother Lawrence Augustine Washington (1761–1815).
