Donora is located at (40.564, -79.865). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of , all of it land. The Monongahela River flows through Donora on its way from Fairmont City to Pittsburgh and eventually joins with the Allegheny River in Downtown Pittsburgh to form the Ohio River. The river splits into two branches just south of town; one branch goes west toward Charleroi and forms part of Donora's border with Monessen while another branch goes east toward Braddock and forms part of Donora's border with Rankin/Braddock Township in Allegheny County before joining back up again near Braddock Hills where it becomes known as "the Point". The Point used to be home for many steel mills but most have since closed down or moved away leaving only U.
