Redmond is located in the High Desert region of Central Oregon. Redmond's climate is typical for that region, with warm summers and cold winters. The city gets about 12 inches (300 mm) of precipitation annually, most falling between October and March; snowfall averages 35 inches (890 mm) per year. Summers are hot—with highs reaching 90 °F (32 °C)—and dry: July typically has only one day where the temperature stays at or below 60 °F (16 °C). Winters are cool but variable: lows can get down to −20 °F (−29 °C), but temperatures above freezing occur on many days each winter month. January is normally the coldest month, with average high temperatures around 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit (-5 to 10 degrees Celsius). Spring arrives slowly in Redmond—snowpack often lingers into May or June—but summer weather arrives quickly when it does arrive; by mid-July afternoons routinely reach 85–95 F (~30 C).
