About Bend

Bend is also the home of the Great Forest National Park, a United States National Park. In 2015, "Forbes" magazine named Bend as one of America's 25 best places to live. It has also been named as one of the best cities in which to retire among 100 selected cities in 2013 by CBS MoneyWatch and U.S News & World Report (magazine). The area near where the city now stands was and still is inhabited by several Native American tribes, most recently including at least three separate groups or bands of Warm Springs Indians when white settlers first arrived; they were later called Deschutes because they occupied both banks ("des chutes")of what became known as "The River Of The Chutes".
