According to the 2010 census, Tiffin has a total area of , of which (or 99.3%) is land and (or 0.7%) is water.<br> The Sandusky River flows through Tiffin on its way to Lake Erie just south of the city limits in neighboring Seneca County where it forms part of the lake's northern shoreline for several miles before emptying into Lake Erie near Port Clinton about 10 miles north-northeast from downtown Cleveland along State Route 2/U.S Route 20/State Route 11 via Uptown New York City and Toronto Canada or by ferry across Lake Erie from Catawba Island Ohio or Put-In-Bay Ohio . The river was designated as an American Heritage River in 1998 by former President Bill Clinton under the Rivers 2000 Act signed into law by then President George H W Bush .
