Located in the eastern part of the county, it borders the following townships: No municipalities are located in Sandusky Township. Sandusky Township was organized around 1815. It is one of twenty-two Sandusky Townships statewide. The township derives its name from nearby Sandusky Bay, which itself was named for a Wyandot chief who lived on an island near present-day Port Clinton; his name meant "fox" or "little fox". Statewide, other Sandusky Townships are located in Erie and Ottawa counties. In addition there is a village also called West Liberty within this township's boundaries that uses another spelling for its namesake town (West Liberty). A post office called West Liberty has been in operation since 1833..
