Montgomery was laid out in 1795 by John Montgomery, and named for him. A post office called Montgomery has been in operation since 1802. The city is home to the headquarters of the Cincinnati Reds minor league baseball team, which plays at Dayton Dragons' Fifth Third Field on West Central Avenue (U.S. Route 35). The first game played there was a sellout against cross-state rival Louisville Bats on April 13, 2000 with an attendance of 6,966 fans; it remains one of only three stadiums that have sold out every single game since opening day (the others being Coors Field in Denver and PNC Park in Pittsburgh). In 2008 they were voted as having the best hot dogs at their stadium by "USA Today".
