The Lenni Lenape Native Americans were the earliest identifiable inhabitants of the Princeton area. Europeans founded their settlement in the late seventeenth century. The first European to find his home in the boundaries of future Princeton was Henry Greenland. He built his house in 1683 along with a tavern, situated between Nassau Street and College Avenue; it was called "The Half-Moon".
