Elizabeth is a city and the county seat of Union County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the city had a total population of 137,298, retaining its ranking as New Jersey's fourth most populous city, after neighboring Newark, Jersey City, and Paterson. The population increased by 16,730 (13.8%) from the 120,568 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 10,566 (+9.6%) from the 110,002 counted in the 1990 Census. The 2020 Census calculated a population of 137,298, an increase of 9.9% from the 2010 enumeration, ranking the city the 203rd-most-populous in the country.In 2008, Elizabeth was named one of "America's 50 Greenest Cities" by Popular Science magazine, the only city in New Jersey selected.

 In 2016, Elizabeth was ranked as the city with the second-highest quality of life in New Jersey (behind Princeton) by NerdWallet.Elizabeth is part of both the New York metropolitan area and the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT Urban Combined Statistical Area.
The Elizabeth River is a tidal estuary approximately 16 miles long in southeastern Virginia in the United States.
