About Billings

The city is also home to the only major Class A baseball stadium in Montana, named Metrapark Stadium. The Billings Mustangs are a short-season Single-A team affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays and play their games at that stadium.Billings was founded in 1882 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was incorporated as a town on February 22, 1885, and as a city on March 15, 1893.The history of Billings begins before white settlement began due to its location along Native American trade routes such as the Bozeman Trail and other major trails heading north towards Canada or south into Wyoming or Idaho; these were used by Indians for hunting expeditions which would last weeks or months.[citation needed] By 1880 after years of conflict with Sioux Indian tribes over game depletion (they hunted bison almost to extinction), white hunters became more numerous than Indians throughout Montana Territory.
