About Roseville

Roseville is a suburb of the Twin Cities located in Ramsey County. The city's population was 20,945 at the 2010 census. Roseville is home to the Minnesota Zoo and Valleyfair amusement park, which are both major tourist draws for residents of Minneapolis–Saint Paul and their northern suburbs. The area that includes present-day Roseville was part of an 1837 land claim by U.S Army Chaplain John Phillip De Graff (1798–1876), who built his homestead on what would become known as DeGraff Island in White Bear Lake after he left Fort Snelling in 1838.[6] In 1850, Dr Daniel Gault bought land from him where he had built a log cabin near Fountain Cave on White Bear Lake.[7] He later sold this tract to Major Lawrence Taliaferro (1815-1903), who established a farmstead there with his wife Harriet Ruggles Taliaferro (died 1890).
