About St. Louis
The city is located within St. Louis Township, but is politically independent. St. Louis was founded in 1836 by George Wiltse and named after his hometown of Saint-Louis, Quebec in Canada (now part of Montreal). The first post office opened with the name "Saint Lewis" on March 3, 1837; it closed a few months later without reopening until August 1 under its current name.[6] It incorporated as a village in 1865 and as a city in 1905.
