Petoskey is a popular tourist destination in the state and region, especially during the summer months. It has many shops, restaurants, and bars that cater to tourists. Petoskey is also home to Little Traverse Bay Regional Airport (KTVC), which serves general aviation for Northern Michigan; commercial service through Cherry Capital Airport near Traverse City is available via Delta Air Lines' connection at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). Petoskey stone was named after this city because it came from quarries near where Petoskey now stands. The stone became widely known when it was used as facing on some of Chicago's most important buildings.
