About Medford

Medford is part of the Greater Boston area with access to public transportation and major roadways such as Interstate 93, U.S. Route 1, Massachusetts Route 28 and Massachusetts Route 16. The city's current mayor is Stephanie M. Burke (D). The mayor's office has been held by several notable people in recent history including: Michael Jaffee (R), a former member of the House Ways & Means Committee; Paul Sullivan (D), who was later elected to Congress; Frederick Wollaston Burgess Jr., who served as acting Mayor while Mayor James Curley was imprisoned on extortion charges; Joseph Timilty, former Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and candidate for Governor in 2002 against Mitt Romney; John "Jack" Connolly III(D) whose father represented Medford in Congress from 1965-1969 before being appointed Secretary for Environmental Affairs under President Jimmy Carter.; Robert Penta(R) an attorney at Nixon Peabody law firm currently serving his second term as Mayor after previously holding that position from 2001–2005.; Michael McGlynn( D); Brian Arrigo.
