Lewiston is also home to the Lewiston Armory, an historic National Guard armory constructed in 1908. The Lewiston area was once called "The City of Lights" as it was one of the few places in North America that had street lights before 1840. Lewistown (; French: [luistɔ̃]; officially the Town of Lewistown) is a town located at the confluence between two rivers, Androscoggin and Woodstock Rivers, in Oxford County, Maine. It includes several villages including South Paris and West Paris which are located on either side of these rivers' intersection with U.S Route 202/Route 4/Route 26 (the "Paris-South Paris Highway"). As of 2010 census its population was 583 making it one mile from being ranked among Maine's largest towns by population size but still considered a city because it has been so designated since 1891 when its first charter became effective under Governor John F.
