Damariscotta (/dæmrɪˈskɒtə/ DAM-ri-SKOT-ə) is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,218 at the 2010 census. Damariscotta is the oyster capital of New England. A popular tourist destination, the towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle are linked by the Main Street bridge over the Damariscotta River, forming the "Twin Villages". The name Damariscotta is an Indian name meaning "river of little fish".

 It is derived from the Abenaki word damariscotta, meaning "river of little fish". The town was incorporated in 1789.
The Damariscotta River flows into the Atlantic Ocean at this point. It is a popular tourist destination for its scenery and water activities, including boating and fishing. During colonial times it was an important shipbuilding center; during World War II it became a major site for building Liberty ships (see below).
