Paris was founded in 1786. It was named for the wife of George Rogers Clark, who had captured it from the British during the American Revolutionary War. The town is home to Paris Landing State Park and a replica of Fort Nelson, built by Clark's men after they returned from their capture of Vincennes, Indiana on February 25, 1779. The city has been featured in several films including "The Rainmaker" (1956), "Conrack" (1974) and most recently as an important location in Stephen King's novel "11/22/63". In addition to being a popular destination for tourists visiting nearby Mammoth Cave National Park or exploring Kentucky's Bourbon Trail distilleries , Paris hosts many events throughout each year such as its annual Dogwood Festival held every April since 1984; Wine & Harvest Festival held annually since 2004; Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony that takes place downtown every December; and Taste Of Country Music Festival hosted at Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Park featuring country music artists each June .
