Lexington ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States, and was ranked as "the second-safest city overall" by CQ Press in its 2018 rankings. The year after Lexington was founded in 1875, it became the first horse capital of the world. It is also home to three private colleges: Transylvania University (founded 1780), Kentucky Wesleyan College (1844), and Lindsey Wilson College (1859). In 2019, Lexington's population will be larger than that of Louisville for a short period; this will occur when students from UK take their summer break between semesters. This has led to several major projects on campus including new dorms being built such as West Campus Commons which opened August 2017 and South Campus Commons which opened January 2019. In addition to these two large projects there are many other smaller ones going on around campus such as renovations at Alumni Hall where they have added an elevator making it fully handicap accessible among other things like painting walls etc...
