About Denison

Denison is home to the Denison University Golf Course, a 9-hole course that was designed by renowned golf architect Robert Trent Jones. The city of Denison was named for Gen. Samuel P. Curtis, who captured Fort Des Moines during the Civil War and later became governor of Iowa in 1872–1874 and U.S senator from 1879 until his death in 1886.[3] The town site on which Denison now stands had been selected as county seat before it even contained any buildings or residents.[4] It was platted by Thomas Gossett on September 23, 1865,[5][6] but remained largely uninhabited until after the arrival of railroads into Crawford County in 1870s.
