Davenport is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Iowa, United States. It is located along the Mississippi River on the eastern border of the state, and is part of a Quad Cities metropolitan area with neighboring Rock Island. The population was 99,685 at the 2010 census making it Iowa's third largest city after Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Davenport was founded on May 14, 1836 by Antoine Le Claire and was named for his friend George Davenport (1787–1828), who served as an officer in one of his trading companies; he later became an American citizen after moving to St Louis from Canada following being discharged from military service during War Of 1812 against Great Britain .
