About City of Cedar Rapids

The city is the headquarters for the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor of Linn, Benton, Jones, Johnson and Washington counties. Cedar Rapids has been nicknamed the "City of Five Seasons", for its famous "fifth season". This nickname was fostered by Cedar Rapidians who are noted for their sense of humor. The name reflects both a regional emphasis on agriculture—the fact that Iowa's climate allows four or five crop harvests each year—and an awareness that in other parts of North America (particularly in regions with colder climates), people have historically had to plan their activities around wintertime. In recent years there has been more recognition given to this unofficial designation as evidenced by several references in popular culture including episodes from two different television series: Gilmore Girls and Supernatural .
