Rochester is the seat of Monroe County and lies on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in New York State. The city was named after Rochester, England. It was one of America's first boomtowns, and rose to prominence as the site where many large flour mills were founded (including what would become General Mills). A statue dedicated to Genesee River founder Alexander Hamilton stands in front of downtown Rochester's tallest building: High Falls Center at 48 stories tall; it is also home to a number of other prominent buildings such as Xerox Tower (the second-tallest) and One HSBC Plaza (the third-tallest), which are both located directly across Main Street from each other.
