About North Vernon
North Vernon was laid out in 1837. It took its name from the fact it is north of Vernon, Indiana. A post office has been in operation at North Vernon since 1838. The John Witherspoon Scott House and William Cramer Farmstead are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The North Vernon Commercial Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
