About Elgin

Elgin is part of a tri-city area, along with Algonquin and Schaumburg. The villages of Campton Hills, Darien, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates (the village where Sears Holdings Corporation headquarters are located), South Elgin and Streamwood are in Elgin's immediate vicinity. The city is home to the world's largest piano manufacturer: Baldwin Piano Company. It also hosts the Barat Academy; a college preparatory academy with an enrollment of over 1,000 students annually as well as two private high schools: St Mary School (Roman Catholic) and Trinity High School (Protestant). In addition there are several parochial elementary schools within the city limits that serve grades K-8 including Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish school which serves grades preK through 8th grade . There is one public high school in Elgin Area Unit District U46 - William A Haines High School serving 9th through 12th graders from all four communities served by U46 .
