The city is home to the corporate headquarters of Dukane Corporation, a manufacturer of medical and military equipment. It is also home to the Illinois Railway Museum, which houses one of the largest collections in North America. The museum's collection includes more than 150 pieces of rolling stock and other railroad related items. West Chicago was founded by John B. Turner (1815-1892), president of G&CU from 1855 until his death in 1892.[3] In 1863 he built West Chicago's first house at what would become 619 N Cass St.,[4] just east across Cass Street from where it stands today.[5][6] He had been born in New York City on June 11, 1815,[7][8] but grew up near Albany, NY after his family moved there when he was still young;[9][10]:33–34 then attended Union College for two years before moving westward with some classmates who were headed for western Pennsylvania or Ohio.
