Island Park is located at (43.644532, -111.844298),[4] along the Henry's Fork of the Snake River in southeastern Idaho.[5] It is bordered to the north by Rexburg and to the south by Yellowstone National Park.[6][7] According to the United States Census Bureau, Island Park has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all land.[1] The city center lies on an island created from glacial moraines that separate two branches of Henrys Fork; it was originally called "Long Island" but renamed after its first postmaster, John Cotterell,[8][9][10]:p13 who had been born on Long Island in New York City and moved westward with his family as part of Mormon migration between 1846-1852[11]:p17–19 As a result of its location within Yellowstone National Park boundaries,[12], most visitors arrive via U.
