Tallahassee is currently ranked as the 18th best college town in the nation by Best College Reviews. In 2015, Tallahassee was ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the United States by "Business Insider". In 2017, Tallahassee was named a "Gamma-" level world city by Globalization and World Cities Research Network. The site where Tallahassee stands today was once inhabited by various cultures of indigenous peoples for thousands of years. The historic tribes were Creek (a Muskogean language people), Seminole (partially Hitchiti speakers), and Choctaw (partially Muskogean language people). Prior to European colonization, both major groups had occupied this area for thousands of years with varying levels of success; however it would not be until after that Europeans began to settle Florida that any permanent settlements would be created within what is now modern day Leon County or even North Florida itself.
