The city's unique architectural and historic heritage, tropical climate, natural deep-water harbor, and location on the United States' oldest continuous inhabited street (the "Old Spanish Trail") have attracted residents and tourists alike. The National Historic Landmark District is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District that encompasses roughly 70% of the structures in the city; it was listed on October 15, 1966. Most notable are its historic forts: Fort Matanzas (built 1695), Castillo de San Marcos (built 1672) which overlooks Matanzas Bay where ships dock to this day; they were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2015 along with related sites such as Marineland, Ponce de León Inlet Lighthouse, Oldest House Museum, Flagler College, Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park & Museum.
