The city's unique architectural and historic heritage, tropical climate, natural deep-water harbor, and location on the United States' oldest continuous inhabited street (the "Old Spanish Trail") have attracted residents and tourists alike. The National Historic Landmark District is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District that encompasses roughly 70% of the structures in the city; it was listed on October 15, 1966.[2] The center of St Augustine contains many shops including art galleries as well as restaurants featuring cuisine from around the world. Most notable are its historic forts: Fort Matanzas (built 1695), Castillo de San Marcos (built 1672) which overlooks Matanzas Bay where ships dock to this day; they were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2015 along with related sites such as Marineland,[3][4] Ponce de León Inlet Lighthouse[5], Oldest House Museum[6], Flagler College,[7] Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park & Museum[8].
