About St. Augustine

The city's unique architecture and historic buildings have made it a center for tourism. The St. Augustine Historical Society provides information about the city's history, as does the St. Augustine Archaeological Museum and the Spanish Colonial Fort San Marcos, which was built in 1695 by Spain to protect its territorial claims on what is now United States territory; it has been designated as a National Historic Landmark District since 1970.
