About Pensacola

Pensacola is a city of the Gulf Coast region and the Florida Panhandle. It is in the northern part of Florida, about west-southwest of Mobile and east-northeast of Tallahassee. Pensacola Bay lies to the city's north and Gulf Islands National Seashore lies to its south; Perdido Key, containing Fort Pickens, separates it from Santa Rosa Island (to which it is connected by a bridge) on its western side. The main part of town sits on Santa Rosa Island with beaches stretching more than between them; including Perdido Key they cover an area greater than that covered by all beaches in Atlantic Canada combined—over . According to the United States Census Bureau, Pensacola has a total area , consisting mostly (about 80%) within Escambia County but extending into Santa Rosa County as well.
