In the early 21st century, Hallandale Beach has seen rapid growth and development along its beachfront and downtown areas. The city is located at . According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of , of which is land and (11%) is water. It borders Hollywood to the north; Dania Beach to the east; Pembroke Park to the south; Davie (including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport) across Interstate 95 on its west side; and unincorporated Broward County (including Oakland Park) inland from I-95's exit 36A off State Road 7/U.S Route 441 or Federal Highway 17).
