The city is located northeast of the county seat of Boulder and 33 miles (53 km) north-northwest of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver. It sits along U.S. Highway 287, known as Main Street within the city limits, and also runs through Longmont on Interstate 25 with access from Exits 194B–Eastbound and 194A–Westbound. Downtown Longmont can be accessed via Exit 20 on Interstate 25 or Exit 171 on U.S Route 287/Main Street or by local roads such as Sunset St., Airport Rd., Ward Rd., Meadowlark Ln., Johnstown Ave./Montebello Ave./Hwy 66, Hover St./Longs Peak Blvd/McKee Rd.. According to a 2012 report by Bankrate magazine, Longmont has one of the highest rates for housing affordability in America; it was ranked number 1 that year out among all cities included nationwide with populations over 50 thousand people at 92%.
