The Colorado Springs Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) includes El Paso County and is part of the Front Range Urban Corridor. The city anchors the south end of what residents and officials have dubbed "America's First Energy Frontier", an area encompassing eastern Wyoming, western Nebraska, most of Kansas, a portion of northeastern New Mexico and northern Texas. In 2009 Mayor John Suthers said that he had officially added aerospace to the city's growing list of economic drivers in response to a question posed by U.S. Senator Ken Salazar at a meeting in Denver regarding future growth prospects for Colorado Springs' economy; Salazar was impressed with Suthers' vision for bringing more high-tech jobs into his community through local partnerships with regional industries such as Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co., Raytheon Co.
