About Santa Maria

Sunset magazine called Santa Maria "The West's Best BBQ Town". The Santa Maria Valley, stretching from the Santa Lucia Mountains toward the Pacific Ocean, was the homeland of Chumash people for several thousand years. They had unique plank-built boats, called Tomol (Tomols were important for their fishing abilities and trade between Chumash tribes; they used them as far south as San Miguel Island off California's coast.), that they used to explore along both coasts of present-day California well before European contact. Santa Barbara is a city located in Southern California on an east–west trending section of coastline about 100 miles (160 km) west of Los Angeles and 120 miles (190 km) northwest of downtown San Diego in southwestern Ventura County.
