Santa Barbara is the second-largest city in California's Santa Barbara County and the county seat of Santa Barbara County. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the longest such section on the West Coast of North America, it is subject to a cool, rainy marine climate; its average January temperatures range from 54 °F (12 °C) to 68 °F (20°C), while summertime highs are usually around 90–95 °F (32–35°C). Rainfall is very heavy at times; rainfall amounts can vary from 15 inches (380 mm) in February 2006 to 5.5 inches or less than 2 cm during droughty summers. Snow does fall rarely: only five measurable accumulations were recorded between July 1882 and June 1974. The most recent snowfall occurred December 27, 2018 when several flurries fell across town. The National Weather Service reports that Ojai has an average annual rainfall of 29.
