In the 1950s, a radio station in Los Angeles aired an advertising jingle claiming that Rancho Cucamonga was "the flower capital of the world." The city's official slogan, "It's Happening in Rancho Cucamonga," is seen on its welcome signs.The city's favorable location and host of public amenities have earned it numerous distinctions. Notably, Money Magazine ranked Rancho Cucamonga 42nd on its "Best Places to Live" list in 2006. In addition, Business Insider established one Rancho Cucamonga neighborhood as the 13th richest neighborhood in Southern California . The four public high schools (Alta Loma , Etiwanda , Los Osos , and Rancocas Valley ) earned the Silver distinction for ranking well above average among California schools for student academic achievement; two were recognized by U.S News & World Report as being among America’s Best High Schools . In 2017 the California Department of Education announced that all four high schools were being named Gold Ribbon Schools .
