About Pleasanton

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all of it land. Pleasanton lies in the northern end of the San Francisco Bay's Amador Valley, which is a region that covers an East Bay subregion and part of Silicon Valley. The city was named after William A. Plevna, who established his first farm there in 1869 (he died at age 43). The name "Pleasanton" came into widespread use when his subdivision was recorded on April 24, 1870 with county records; before this time it had been known as "Harwood". The 2010 United States Census reported that Pleasanton had a population of 78,950.
